Atlantic Walrus

The species name, Odobenus rosmarus, is Latin for “tooth walking sea-horse.” While there is only one walrus species, there are two subspecies: O. rosmarus rosmarus is the Atlantic walrus, found in eastern Canada and the high Arctic.

Hunt for Atlantic Walrus out of Iqualuit, Nunavut

The dates for this hunt can be customized to fit your schedule.  The outfitter recommends anytime in September however you can start as early as the last week of August and go into the first week of October.  We can customize the 5 day hunt at the time of booking.

Iqaluit is serviced by a few major Airlines. There are flights available from Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal and Winnipeg.  Ameri-Cana will assist you with arranging your flights as we do receive discounted fares.

Cost

Cost for this hunt is $11,500.00USD. Extra’s will be the federal tax @ 5% and your license of course.  

Cost Includes

  • Meeting in Iqaluit and preparing for the 5 day hunt.
  • Use of at least 2 guides
  • Use of the 42 ft. boat and all of its amenities (3 or more hunters at once)
  • Skinning of your trophy Walrus for a head mount
  • All food for up to 5 days while hunting.
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Necessary life vests and equipment while on the boat.
  • Opportunity to fish for Char within the 5 days allotted.
  • Nunavut Export permits

  •         Federal tax of 5% on the hunt cost
  •         Licenses for Walrus, Seals or fishing
  •         Hotels needed in Iqaluit or along the way.
  •         Any taxidermy work
  •         Shipping of the skin, skull and tusks.

Accommodations

You will sleep on the 42’ boat unless for some reason a tented camp is beneficial.  The boat can handle up to 4 hunters comfortably.  Most meals are cooked on the boat as well. Smaller boats will be used 26’ and 27’fully closed cabin and heated for individual hunters. Hunter will sleep in the boats with the guides.

Hunt Conditions

September normally offers mild temperatures in Iqaluit. You can expect temperatures anywhere from 5 C. – 15 C. (40F.-60F.) You will travel approx. 60 miles (2-3 hours) by boat from Iqaluit to the hunting area.
